What better way to acknowledge the impact on my work of Richard Diebenkorn’s painting composition than painting about it?
The Ocean Park series was completed during the 60s, 70s and 80s by this most illustrious artist. Composition is (arguably) everything in a two dimensional work of art and he demonstrated his mastery of it by arranging shapes, colors and lines to create his awesome paintings. I think of him as a painter’s painter.
If you squint really hard and turn your head sideways you’ll catch a fleeting glimpse of his spirit and influence in this homage.
