This drawing reminds me of one I finished a couple years ago called “Queen Mab” after a friend suggested it. Queen Mab is a fairy described by Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet. She rides through people’s thoughts while they sleep, causing them to dream based on their desires and nature.

My paintings typically emerge slowly, they haunt me for a day or three or twenty-three until they suddenly freeze in their tracks, say boo! and — eventually — disappear.

Here’s the latest houseghost progression. For the past few paintings I’ve been trying out a new technique — creating a black/white/gray image first, then overlaying color. What I’ve discovered is that oftentimes the intermediate steps are fine and could be finished images all on their own.
